Les Enfants d’Abord Announces Collaboration with The French Library
The collaboration serves as a cultural exchange between American students studying French in New Orleans and Senegalese students enrolled in Les Enfants d’Abord’s programs
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA (21 September 2018) - Non-profit organization Les Enfants d’Abord and The French Library, a French-language children’s shop in Uptown New Orleans, have agreed to launch a collaborative cultural exchange program for children ages 8-12 years old. This partnership will provide both organizations with a new and exciting opportunity to educate children on world cultures and the French language.
“It is important for us as educators to prepare our students to be part of the global community,” said the President of Les Enfants d’Abord, Jaryd Kase. “This cultural exchange, which will include a pen pal program and hands-on lessons on local food, music, and art, will provide an insight beyond what is possible through textbooks and television. We are excited for the children to expand their worldview by learning about their cultural differences while realizing that these children aren’t so different that they cannot develop meaningful and lasting friendships.”
Known for its livestock and tapestries, Thiès is a city on Africa’s west coast with a rich French colonial heritage and vibrant arts and music scene. The “city of the train” and the third largest city in Senegal is considered to be fertile ground for the future growth as one of the country’s hubs for education and business.
The cultural exchange program will begin in October, 2018. Children in the Greater New Orleans area interested in participating in the program should have their parent or guardian contact Cristina Aviani Lamia at The French Library.
